A number of states have enacted laws to regulate gambling. Depending on the laws in your state, you may be able to play in a casino, bingo, or poker. Some states have regulations for online gambling, while others do not.

In addition, federal law has been used to reinforce state law in cases. The Federal Communications Commission, for example, has the authority to stop furnishing facilities or discontinuing the leasing of facilities. The State of New York has laws that regulate gambling. In 2012, a court in that state ruled that online poker was a game of skill, opening the door for online sports betting.
