Bin 803 - G. Schneider & Sohn, "Wiesen Edel-Weisse" Hefeweizen - Kelheim/Munich, Germany (USDA Certified Organic)
A 100% certified organic Hefeweizen, from the home of Hefeweizen: Germany. A longtime favorite of Chef Carrie Schleiffer, this Hefe is the one most others end up getting compared to. It pours a lovely, cloudy, almost brassy yellow color, and develops a velvety and lasting white head. Aromas of banana, clove, orange peel, lemon zest, pie spices, and white pepper spring from the glass. On the palate one is rewarded with some of those same banana and spice notes, but also with a delicate balance of sweet malt and hop bitterness. Full bodied and robust, with rich, persistant carbonation. A thinking man's Hefeweizen for sure, and one not to be missed. 6.2% alc. (16.9oz bottle)

Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. The ideal companion for hearty roast meat, venison and also fruity chocolate desserts, or blue cheese. Can anyone say house-made Charcuterie....we think you can, and should. 8.2% alc. (16.9oz. bottle)

Bin 844 - G. Schneider & Sohn and Brooklyn Brewery, "Hopfen-Weisse" Dry-Hopped Weissbock - Kelheim/Munich, Germany
Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse is a collaboration between brewmasters Hans-Peter Drexler of the Schneider Weissbier Brewery and Garrett Oliver of The Brooklyn Brewery. Garrett and Hans-Peter have long admired each other's beers. Now together they bring you a new sensation, a pale weissbock style beer robustly dry-hopped with the Hallertau Saphir variety grown in the fields near the Schneider brewery. Hoppy, zesty, and supremely refreshing, with flavors of bright citrus and spices, Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse is a delicious blend of Bavarian craftsmanship and American ingenuity. Bin 820 - Brauerei Heller, "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Weizen" - Bamberg, Germany
This Schlenkerla Rauchbier (Smokebeer) is an unfiltered, wheat ale with a distinctly smoky profile. As with most Bavarian wheat beers, it is brewed with a mixture of both malted barley and malted wheat. The portion of barley malt used is lightly smoked before being used to brew, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. This combination of ingredients makes for an interesting blend of the traditional Hefeweizen aromas of banana, clove, citrus fruit, and baking spice, all backed up with a decidedly smoky note. Bottled unfiltered and then bottle-conditioned this beers rustic profile and pleasing carbonation seemingly harken back to another time when beer was made and malt was roasted, with fire, because it had to be. Like a blast from the past in a glass. 5.2% alc. (500ml bottle)

Bin 855 - Mikkeller, "Galena" Single-Hop Series IPA - Brewed at De Proef Brouwerij, Belgium
This beer is a part of a Single-Hop IPA series by our favorite gypsy, Mikkeller. They created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own, with no additives or adjuncts. This gives the consumer the possibility to smell and taste the unique characteristics of each hop variety and will hopefully help to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each version, the single hop was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma, flavor, and for dry hopping. All 18 varieties of Single-Hop ale in this series were brewed the same week, from the same batches of malt, using the same yeast strain and fermentation temperatures. This is done to ensure consistency in the malt profile, and better isolate and accurately compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties. This version is brewed with the fresh, fruity, aromatic, and almost berry-like GALENA variety. Notes of tart citrus, tropical fruits, and under-ripe berries are nicely balanced by the toasted malt backbone. 6.9% alc. (11.2 oz. bottle)

Bin 862 - G. Schneider & Sohn, "Aventinus Eisbock" Weizen-Eisbock - Kelheim/Munich, Germany
Say hello to the happy, high-alcohol, accident! Eisbock's creation, as a style, was an accident: the by-product of a lack of temperature controlled shipping. In earlier times, when brewers in Southern Germany would ship their dark beers in the heart of the winter, they would often find that when the beers arrived at their destination, they were partially frozen due to exposure to the elements. Not wanting to wait for their beer to thaw, many recipients would remove the chunks of ice from the barrel, and drink what remained. The resultant beer was essentially twice as rich, twice as flavorful, and (here's the important part) twice as strong. The Germans of Munich and the surrounding regions took a liking to the style and the rest is history. This style of beer is typically brewed, as it was then, in the fall, for consumption in the coldest winter months. Trust us when we say this, this beer is a force to be reckoned with! Stronger than strong, with powerful aromas and an intense flavor. Mahogany, nearly black, and pouring a thin white head, the aroma reminds one of ripe plums with a hint of bitter almonds and marzipan. The beer displays a strong character of baked banana, nutmeg, and clove, and is full bodied, rich, and very warming on your palate. Imagine our old, tried-and-true favorite, "Aventinus", on steroids. Share one with a friend, or enjoy this as a slow-sipping night cap. 12% alc. (11.2oz. bottle)

Bin 863 - De Dolle Brouwers, "Special Extra Export" Stout - Esen, Belgium
And now for something completely different.... This beer will be one of the more unique stout styles you've ever had. While Stout, as a style, is far more popular in English speaking countries, the Belgians have also always had a small soft spot in their hearts for Stout too. Even though stout isn't a traditional Belgian beer style, De Dolle Brewers have created a "Belgianized" version of it for their and your enjoyment. This stout is brewed only a couple of times each year, with house-roasted malt, German Caramel or Cara-Munich malt, and American pale malt, Nugget hops, and is fermented, and then bottle conditioned with De Dolle's house-strain wild Belgian yeast. The combination of all those elements results in a bitter, tart beer, with complex character. Unlike modern, more typical stouts, this beer has a high-alcohol warmth, tart flavors, and a big, dry body. It has a dark, almost black chocolate color. The nose is a touch musky, slightly sweet, and spicy. Flavors of dark fruits like figs, sour black cherries, and plums bounce around in the glass with chocolate, coffee, licorice, and some hazelnut notes. It finishes with a dry explosion of black espresso flavors. The Belgian yeast strain fermentation gives it a high carbonation level, that makes for a very lively mouthfeel. Tiny production size, hands-on quality, and a unique style! 9% alc. (11.2oz. bottle)

Bin 858 - Full Sail Brewing Co., Brewer's Share Series "Chris's Summer Delight" Berliner Weiss - Hood River, Oregon
Even more beer with a heart!! What started as a small experiment in their Hood River Brewpub, has expanded to nationwide philanthropy. Each of Full Sails five-man brew team was allowed to explore their own personal curiosities, and create a unique bottling of a style of their choice. With each Brewer’s Share series beer that Full Sail releases, each brewer picks a local charity or organization to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer. The third beer in the series "Chris's Summer Delight" Berliner Weiss was developed by Brewer, Chris Haveman and was released in June. Berliner Weiss is an easy drinking unfiltered beer made with 50% wheat malt, a tiny amount of very delicate, floral, German Hersbruker hops and a small touch of lactic acid to give it a refreshing tartness. Berliner Weiss are crisp and clean beers, excellent with everything from seafood, to cheese, to chicken and pork. Low alcohol and sessionable are the name of the game. Chris has chosen to support the Oregon State University Brewing Sciences Program, from which Chris is an alumnus. Bin 868 - Green Flash Brewing Co. and Brasserie St. Feuillien, "Friendship Brew" Ale brewed with Spices - San Diego, California
In the holiday spirit of coming together and enjoying friends, we would like to present to you....another collaboration brew!! Green Flash Brewing Company, a well established San Diego, California brewery, has been doing collaboration brewing since it opened its doors in 2002, and this beer is their second collaboration with famed Belgian brewery, St. Feuillien. "Friendship Brew" blends European and American hops, Belgian yeast, and a carefully guarded combination of spices. The aroma and flavors are enticing, with a delicate fruitiness, subtle spice, and full but rounded roast malt characteristics. The spices are extremely well integrated, and serve more as support for some of the notes being offered up by the beautiful Belgian yeast strain, rather than being a driving force in the beer. Bottle conditioning provides lively carbonation and a super-rich head for a luscious body, and a lean, dry finish. Technically classified as a "Black Saison", this beer, in our opinion, should please regular Saison and Dark beer drinkers alike. Share one tonight with a friend! 5.7% alc. (22oz. bottle(

Bin 821 - Unibroue, "Maudite" Belgian-Style Amber-Red Ale - Chambly, Quebec, Canada
Know this now...Unibroue does not make a bad beer! Their whole line-up is amazing, but we've got two of the best. This beer, "Maudite", is a classic Belgian-style Amber brewed with dark roasted malt, Belgian "Candi" sugar, and spices. Rich and warming, the nose is full of spice: clove, Cassia cinnamon, and black pepper. A nice maltiness is definitely present, and lifts the spices out of the glass. The finish is clean and un-cloying due to a twist of well-metered hop bitterness. Medium bodied and vigorously carbonated due to bottle conditioning, this beer really is a wonderful example of proper Belgian beer making from this side of the Atlantic. 8% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 822 - Unibroue, "La Fin Du Monde" Belgian-Style Tripel - Chambly, Quebec, Canada
Another classic from another house-favorite brewery. La Fin du Monde was developed over 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered the northern-most areas of North America. This triple-style golden ale recreates a style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions, and as such, it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America. Light fruit notes of lemon, orange peel, bruleed grapefruit, and peach bounce around in the glass with warming, peppery spices. The taste is a long, complex blend of fruit, spice, and biscuity yeast tones. A champagne-like carbonation and bright flavor tones make this beer a wonderful substitute to Champagne as far as pairings are concerned. We love it! 9% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 824 - J.W. Lees Brewery, "2008 Harvest Ale" Ale Matured in Sherry Oak Casks - Manchester, England
Talk about special! We here, at G2B, were fortunate enough to get our hands on some of this rare, back vintage, cask-aged ale, and we are super excited about it! J.W.Lees Harvest Ale is a rich, robust, and sweet English Barleywine, a rare style somewhat similar to a classic Scotch Ale. This style is brewed with very little hops, so as to preserve the essential sweetness and nutiness of the malt. The significant malt bill provides notes of dark fruits like plums and figs, as well as notes of molassas and pure cane sugar. THIS VERSION is aged, after fermentation, in used Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for 2 years before being bottled, and conditioned in bottle. The low carbonation and smoothness, due to age, make this beer suprisingly drinkable, despite it's hefty 11.5% alcohol. Take advantage of this one while they last, because we likely won't be able to get any more. 11.5% alc. (9.3oz. bottle)

Bin 846 - Foothills Brewing Company, Bourbon Barrel Aged People's Porter - Winston-Salem, NC
Set in the heart of Winston-Salem, Foothills Brewing Company has quickly become a major fixture in the North Carolina craft beer scene. This beer takes their well known People's Porter and kicks it up a notch, by aging it in 20 year old bourbon barrels. Like its unaged predecessor, the Bourbon Barrel Aged People's Porter pours dark brown and sustains a stable mocha head. The nose promises exactly what the flavor delivers - the bold taste of unsweetened chocolate, toffee, espresso, a touch of nuttiness, and the sweet notes of vanilla produced by its time aging in bourbon barrels. A delicious choice with a reasonable ABV that won't get you into trouble. Enjoy it with a steak and let it continue through to dessert! 6.0% alc. (22 oz bottle)

Bin 815 - Brooklyn Brewery, "Sorachi Ace" Belgian-Style Saison - Brooklyn, New York
Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is a classic saison, a cracklingly dry, hoppy unfiltered golden farmhouse ale, but made entirely with now-rare Sorachi Ace hops grown by a single farm in Oregon. Brooklyn ferments it with their special Belgian ale yeast strain, and then adds more Sorachi Ace hops post-fermentation. After the dry-hopping, the beer emerges with a bright spicy lemongrass / lemon zest aroma backed by a wonderfully clean malt flavor. It tastes like sunshine in a glass, and that suits us just fine, especially with seafood dishes and fresh cheeses. It’s just the thing on nice summer days and beyond. 7.6% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 830 - Southern Tier Brewing Co., "Gemini" Blended Unfiltered Ale - Lakewood, New York
Blended Beer recipe for success = Start with two stellar products...and that is exactly what Southern Tier has done here. A 50/50 blend of Southern Tier's Unfiltered Pale Ale called Hoppe, and their more bitter, tongue-bruising Imperial IPA, the "Unearthly". The result is a beer with striking balance and surprising drinkability despite it's hefty ABV. It has nice and well-balanced aromas of citrus, honey, caramel, herbs, pine, pineapple, and a bit of alcohol. The aromas are nicely echoed in the flavor but with a slightly more biscuity, yeasty note. There is a nice amount of spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of conifer and citurs. Fantastic balance of bitterness and malty flavors; with no cloying sweetness at all. Great beer from one of our favorite breweries. 9% alc. (22oz. bottle)

Bin 843 - Ballast Point Brewing Co., "Sculpin" IPA - San Diego, CA
Talk about playing hard to get! This beer sells out quickly every time it lands at local bottle shops. People simply cannot get enough of Sculpin - a deceptively light bodied, yet very hoppy IPA that is brimming with bright apricot, peach, mango, and lemon flavors, which are imparted by the skillful use of a variety of hops. Sculpin is a testament to Ballast Point's commitment to making unique yet highly drinkable beer. They literally struck gold (as in Gold Medal) on this particular beer - at the World Beer Cup 2010 in the International Pale Ale category. Despite its poisonous spikes, the meat from a Sculpin fish is considered some of the tastiest, and that's what makes Sculpin the perfect name for this IPA: Has a sting, but tastes great!! Another hard-to-find and award winner treat here at G2B ! 7% alc. (22oz. bottle)

Bin 834 - Nøgne Ø, "Holy Smoke" Smoked Lager - Grimstad, Norway
Every year the brewery team at Nøgne Ø offers the winner of the Norwegian Homebrewers Competition an opportunity to brew their winning entry on a larger scale and make it available to the purchasing public. This beer is the handy-work of 2011 winner, Erlann Eldorsen. "Holy Smoke" is a classic Rauch (Smoke) Beer lager brewed in the true Bamberg, Germany tradition. Brewed with light Pilsner and Lager malts, but with a healthy dose of English Peat-Smoked malt, this beer is smooth, and well balanced, yet assertive, with smoke notes backing up the classic caramel-nuttiness one would expect from a European lager. A limited production, and one time bottling, this is another beer to be enjoyed while it lasts, because we may not be able to get any, or much, more. A gem from a little-known gem of a brewery. Perfect for food off the grill! 6.2% alc. (16.9oz. bottle)

Bin 836 - Estrella Damm, "Inedit" Barley and Wheat Ale - Barcelona, Spain
A unique beer from a very unique team! "Inedit" is the collaborative effort of Estrella Damm Brewery in Barcelona, Spain, and famed, multi-award winning restaurant, el Bulli. For those of you unfamiliar with el Bulli, it was for all intensive purposes, the birthplace of the Molecular Gastronomy food movement, and has long been concidered one of the best restaurants in the world. When chef/owner Ferran Adria and his team of sommeliers at el Bulli saw the need for a beer created to pair with food, and particularly difficult to pair food, they turned to Estrella Damm and their master brewers to create for them an intense, aromatic, beautiful, and most importantly, food friendly beer. The beer is a lovely combination of lager and traditional wheat ale styles, spiced with coriander, orange peel, and wild licorice. Belgian and lager yeast strains work together to provide pretty aromatics of citrus, apple, and spice. A very light body and carbonation make the beer exceptionally easy drinking and enjoyable. A stellar pairing for salads, vinegar based sauces, vegetables like asparagus and artichokes, as well as salmon, tuna, and fatty cheeses. 4.8% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 816 - Hoppin' Frog Brewing Co., Barrel-Aged "B.O.R.I.S" Oatmeal-Imperial Stout - Akron, Ohio
This beer starts life as Hoppin' Frog's Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal winning beer, "B.O.R.I.S the Crusher" Bodacious Oatmeal Russian Imperial Stout. However, never being satisfied with the status-quo, Hoppin' Frog thought it wise to up the ante a little by aging that already outstanding stout in a used Bourbon barrel, imparting notes of smoke, oak, and sweet vanilla to the already over the top dark roast espresso, chicory, toffee, and dark fruit notes. A refreshing hop character provides a bitterness that slides in on the palate right where you would expect espresso to. Full bodied and rich, this beer will pair well with everything from steak and chops, to bittersweet and dark chocolate desserts. Seriously one of the headiest, best stouts around! 9.4% alc. Bin 867 - Nøgne Ø and Terrapin Beer Co. - "Imperial Rye Porter" English-Style Strong Porter Ale brewed with Rye Malts - Grimstad, Norway
If you can't tell, we love collaboration brews around here, at G2B, and this one is certainly no slouch. Big, dark, and bold, this beer is a good example of what happens when two great brewing minds get together and try something different. Most of the time dark porters like this one are made exclusively with malted barley of varying roast levels, but in the eyes of Spike (yes, his nickname is Spike) from Terrapin Beer Co. in Athens, Georgia and Kjetil from Nøgne Ø, that's been done too many times before. So what they chose to do with this beer was make it an imperial style, upping the ante with twice as much malt and twice as much flavor, but they also elected to substitute a portion of the malted barley for smoked, and heavily roasted rye malt. Rye malt brings a charming, peppery spiciness to any beer it's added to, and this brew is no exception. "Motor oil" black in color, and pouring a dark tan/caramel colored head, this beer show notes on the nose of espresso-roast coffee, dark toffee, burnt sugar, grilled and roasted meats, black pepper, and bitter herbs. The palate echos many of those heavily roasted flavors, with the subtle smoke and spice notes from the rye malt bringing up the rear. A well integrated beer, with no one note speaking over the rest. Only a few cases of this rarity came into the state, and we were fortunate enough to get one. Try one before it's gone! 9% alc. (500ml bottle)

Bin 810 - Westmalle Trappist Monestary, Westmalle Tripel" Belgian Abbey Ale - Malle, Belgium
The Tripel to which, in our opinion, all others are to be compared to. The Westmalle Tripel is often called the “Mother of all Tripels”. This beer was first brewed in the Westmalle Abbey in 1934, when a new brewing hall was built at the monestary. The current formula has remained unchanged since 1956. Westmalle Tripel is a clear, golden yellow beer that undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle. A complex beer with a lightly fruity aroma and a nicely nuanced hop scent. It is soft and creamy on the palate, with just a touch of bitterness carried by the fruity aromas and flavors. An exceptional beer, with a great deal of finesse and elegance. 9.5% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 832 - Corsendonk, "Pater" Dubbel Abbey Ale - Turnhout, Belgium
In todays world of experimental and exotic beers, sometimes all you want is a classic example of the style: nothing that's trying to reinvent the wheel, just a well made beer that does what you want it to. That's exactly what we have here. For years, when you said "Dubbel" to Beverage Director, Greg Pfaender, he said "Corsendonk". This dubbel pours a dark brown cloudy color, forming a huge and very fluffy beige head. The aroma is bready and yeasty with strong dark fruit aromas. There are some lighter hints of banana, brown sugar and spice as well. The taste follows the nose: Belgian yeasts, brown sugar, brown, pumpernickel style bread, spices (coriander) and caramel malts. Relatively light on the palate with a highly effervescent carbonation. A very smooth and balanced Dubbel ale. 7.5% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 842 - Brouwerij Lindemans, "Pomme" Apple Lambic - Vlezenbeek, Belgium
Lambic...if you've never had one, now is the time to try it! Lindeman's makes now, and has made for a long time, the best natural fruit lambics on the planet. Long before hops were common in most beers, various fruits and herbs were used to season beers. This is a wonderfully refreshing example of one of those classic ales. After a base beer is made from barley, unmalted wheat, and wild yeast, apples are added to start a secondary fermentation, and only after that fruit-driven fermentation is complete is the finished beer bottle conditioned with another small dose of native yeast. The clean, bright aroma and flavor of apples melds beautifully with the complex tartness of true, wild yeast fermented lambic. A smooth, light body, with Champagne-like effervescence helps the fresh flavor of real apples jump out of the glass. Imagine, if you will, taking a bite out a Granny Smith apple that had been soaked in light, fresh Belgian ale.

Bin 808 - Kiuchi Brewery, "Hitachino Nest" Japanese Classic Ale aged in Cedar Casks - Ibaraki, Japan
The first English style IPA reached Japan on the merchant vessels of British traders during the 19th Century. With their "Hitachino Nest" Japanese Classic Ale, Kiuchi Brewery has created a uniquely Japanese ale that harkens back to the original English IPAs that inspired it. Using on the highest quality ingredients, this beer pours a lovely amber color and holds a substantial white head whichs leaves behind impressive lacing. The nose presents with aromas of citrus, spice, warm baked bread and a hint of fresh cut wood. Far from a West Coast IPA, Hitachino Nest's flavor starts with slightly sweet malt, caramel, and apricot with a subtle, smooth mouth feel. This leads into the balanced hop finish of tart citrus, slight bitterness and piney notes, and once again that hint of fresh cut wood. 7.0% alc. (24.3 oz bottle)

Bin 811 - Brasserie D'Achouffe, "Houblon" Double IPA/Belgian Tripel Hybrid - Achouffe, Belgium
Another interesting combination of styles. This beer pours a hazy, straw yellow color with thick, white head. The aroma is strongly hoppy, but in a distinctively European way. Spicy floral hop and citrus notes leap out of the glass. The flavor is intensely flavored and big on hop bitterness, but not totally out of balance, like some American Double IPAs. There remains a good sweetness from the hefty malt bill and great yeast character. A medium bodied and perfectly carbonated beer. 9% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 805 - Saint Somewhere Brewing Co., "Saison Athene" Belgian-Style Farmhouse Ale - Tarpon Springs, FL
An extremely well-made and highly sought after Saison style from one of Americas leading Belgian-style beer brewers. The aroma is full of tart and zesty citrus, with distinct herbal notes of lemongrass, clove, and ginger. Yeasty, biscuity notes are also evident on the nose, but are somewhat hidden behind the herb and fruit flavor set. The color is a gorgeous, hazy golden, with a rocky white head. The palate displays the same notes of citrus fruit, but honeyed, and spiced. The mouthfeel is full to medium bodied with very effervescent carbonation. A very clean and crisp finish, and barely detectable alcohol content make this beer very easy to drink. 7.5% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 823 - Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, "Red and White" Ale brewed with Pinot Noir and Spices - Milton, Delaware
Red & White is a big, Belgian-style witbier brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation, a fraction of the batch is aged in one of Dogfish Head's 10,000-gallon French oak tanks, while the rest is aged in smaller, once-used Pinot Noir barrels. Red & White successfully marries the refreshing, citrusy, and spicy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity and depth of a bold red wine. Bottle-Conditioning adds complexity to the flavors and aroma, as well as an amazingly luxurious mouthfeel and texture. Only released a few times a year, this beer is another unique and special brew. 10% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 826 - Uinta Brewing Company's Crooked Line, "Cockeyed Cooper" Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine Ale - Salt Lake City, Utah
We like Uinta's slightly cheeky description best..."Launch into the exquisite flavors of bourbon with splashes of vanilla. Watch for currents of dark chocolate and dried fruit. Generous amounts of hops and malts make for a smooth journey from start to finish. Decadent desserts and aged cheeses make superb companions." A rich and warming example of a style that is tragically overlooked when people talk about craft beer and food pairings. This beer is one that will age with the best of them: approachable now, but built to last. Have one now and check back next year. We guarantee it'll be a whole different animal. 11.1% alc. Bin 813 - Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, "La Roja" Amber Ale Aged in Oak Barrels - Dexter, Michigan
Jolly Pumpkin is among the top producers of Belgian-style ale in the US. Made by hand in small batches, these beers are something to behold. La Roja is an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition of souring and blending. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age from two to ten months. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice, and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Almost wine-like and definitely possessing darker fruit notes, like dark cherries, and vinegar-like acidity. Some oak aromas can also be picked up, mingled with the slightest bit of caramel. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a sharp, but pleasingly dry finish, slight tingling from the carbonation, and a nice warming sensation from the alcohol. 7.2% alc. (750ml bottle)

Very pretty citrus notes mingle with spices, wheat, mineral, and a slightly barn-yardy funkiness, both on the nose and the palate. You'll find it refreshingly tart, with a wonderfully dry finish, light tingly carbonation, and a classic Wit-Bier drinkability. 4.5% alc. (750ml bottle)

This beer is another wonderful effort from our favorite "Gypsy Brewer", Mikkeller. This brew is one of an entire series of Barrel-Aged Barleywines, we just happen to like the Red Wine barrel aged example the best. Mikkeller starts by brewing a classic English-Style Barleywine, full of sweet malt, toffee, cherry, and caramel notes, then ages that Barleywine in used red wine barrels. The barrel imparts distinct smoky oak and vanilla notes with a nice vineous character. The red wine character stands out and helps to cut slightly into the natural sweetness of Barleywine as a style, putting it very nicely in balance. The faintest touch of hops adds just the right amount of bitterness to cleverly imitate red wine tannin. Very rich and only slightly boozey (despite the high ABV), but very pleasant and executed with finesse. Try this beer with steak and be impressed! 12% alc. (375ml bottle)

Bin 859 - Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. & Russian River Brewing Co., "Brux" Wild Ale - Chico, California
Cheers to the funk of wild ales!! What began as mutual admiration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Grossman Family and Russian River Brewing Company’s Cilurzos has grown and progressed into genuine friendship. This beer, "Brux" began as an idea and has grown into something altogether different: The liquid manifestation of change over time. Re-fermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces bruxellensis (wild, native yeast), "Brux" will change and develop over time. Copper-colored, dry and complex, with slightly tart notes of green grass, pear, dried fruit, spice and lemon - this ale will progress in the bottle for many years to come. A welcome addition to the Reserve program and a great joint venture!! 8.3%alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 864 - Birra del Borgo and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, "My Antonia" Imperial Pils - Borgorose, Italy
"My Antonia" (named after the Willa Cather read), is a continually-hopped Imperial Pilsner style beer. This is a lager for ale lovers looking for something citrusy, sweet and refined. "My Antonia" started out as a collaboration beer when Sam C. from Dogfish brewed it at Birra del Borgo, outside Rome, Italy, with owner/brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo in October 2008. That first release was completely sold out in just weeks. In 2010, Dogfish Head began brewing "My Antonia" here in the States, at their Delaware brewpub for U.S. distribution. The beer, however, was so popular on both sides of the Atlantic, that Birra del Borgo decided to open up the recipe book and start making this lovely Pils in Italy again. Crisp, fresh, dry, and highly effervescent, this beer drinks almost like a weighty, dense French Champagne. A touch of light, but not cloying malt sweetness is impeccably balanced by a persistent, refreshing hoppiness. A rare find from the Italian side! Have one tonight! 7.5% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 869 - Mikkeller, "Spontanframboos" Lambic-Style Ale brewed with Raspberries and aged in Red Wine Barrels - Brewed at De Proef Brouwerij, Belgium
Holy Lord!!! This one is another gem from our Danish gypsy friend, Mikkeller. Quite honestly, folks, this is one of the best Lambic-style ales that we, at G2B, have ever had, and that's saying something because we like 'em sour around here! Just as with traditional Belgian lambics, a portion of this beer's mash is allowed to open-top sour, then undergoes a spontaneous, all-native yeast fermentation. It is then rested and allowed to complete fermentation on real whole Raspberries (no syrup or puree here). The beer is then aged for six months in used red wine barrels, imparting slightly tannic, wine-like, notes that only add to the unique nature of this beer product. Bursting with fresh raspberry, and red wine aromas, this beer literally smells a little different every time you bring it to your nose. Fresh fruit sweetness on the palate is precision balanced by the acidity present from the wild yeast fermentation and open-top souring process. A long, complex, and somewhat funky finish makes for a pleasurable, but thought provoking drinking experience. Enjoy this rarity with many of the same dishes or pairings with which you would have a glass of New World Pinot Noir or true Red Burgundy. A beer for wine lovers. Or beer lovers. Anyone really. Pure and simple, it IS that good! 7.7% alc. (375ml bottle)

Bin 861 - Uinta Brewing Company's Crooked Line, "Oak Jacked" Oak-Aged Imperial Pumpkin Ale - Salt Lake City, Utah
Do you want to taste the biggest, richest, most over-the-top Pumpkin Ale out there this season? Well, look no further. A part of Uinta Brewing Company's high-gravity, experimental series called "Crooked Line", "Oak Jacked" is exactly that: experimental. Most pumpkin beers are made on either a light ale or lager base recipe, but Uinta decided that their pumpkin beer should be made with a lightly spiced (with cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg), toasty, molasses-like brown ale base. The complex interplay between the sweet, malty brown ale notes, with the Pumpkin, spices, and oak barrel aging, makes this beer undeniably unique amongst Pumpkin Ales. Notes of brown sugar, maple-baked pumpkin, toasted nuts, molasses, and winter spices are evident both in the aroma and on the palate. The faintest touch of hop bitterness balances the sweetness of the pumpkin and spices. A very pleasant alcohol warming effect finishes the experience. Of all the pumpkin beers we've had come through the door so far this season, this one has been the biggest eye opener. Get one while it lasts! 10.3% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 838 - Allagash Brewing Company, "Curieux" Ale Aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels - Portland, Maine
This beer is one of the first barrel-aged beers that house beer-geek (Beverage Director) Greg Pfaender had, and is still among his favorites. Allagash begins by brewing a world-class Belgian-style Tripel ale, a la Westmalle or Chimay, then places that beer in used Jim Beam bourbon barrels for eight weeks in their cold cellars. The aged beer is then blended back with a portion of fresh Tripel. The resulting beer is soft with tropical, citrusy, bready, and vanilla notes, with hints of bourbon and an oaky sweetness. A little bit of well-placed hop bitterness ties the whole beer together beautifully. The vigorous carbonation and rich, textured mouthfeel, make for one of the more complex and intriguing barrel-aged beers out there. Perfect for strong blue cheeses, charcuterie, and desserts like custard, creme brulee, and bread pudding. 11% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 847 - Uinta Brewing Company's Crooked Line, "Birthday Suit" Sour Cherry Ale - Salt Lake City, Utah
Whenever a brewery decides to celebrate a birthday by brewing a beer, good things usually happen. Brewed to commemorate the Uinta Brewing Company's 19th birthday, this beer is no exception. The taste is one part Belgian Flanders Sour Red, one part sweet, floral, Cherry Ale. Vigorous Champagne-like effervescence brings out aromas of cranberries, tart, just underipe cherries, and a unique biscuity wild yeast character. The taste is pleasingly tart, and mouth watering, and echos many of those same sour cherry/cranberry notes. A slightly lower alcohol percentage keeps this beer supremely drinkable, and a fantastic food pairing. Pretend it's your birthday tonight with this beer and the Duo of Duck! 5.7% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 860 - Birrificio Baladin, "Nora" Ancient Spice Ale, 2010 Limited Edition Sour Version - Piozzo, Italy
Welcome to the wacky word of Ancient Ales!! Over the past decade Birrificio Baladin has been quietly gathering insanely high accolades from the beer press and a fanatically loyal following both abroad and stateside. Consistently praised for their beers food-pairing ability, and this product is no different. Brewed to honor the brewmaster, Teo's, wifes Algerian/Egyptian heritage, this beer was crafted from an ancient Egyptian recipe. Un-malted Kamut, which was used in ancient Egyptian beers, is employed as the primary fermentable. Hops, which would not have been used in Egypt, are employed in a tiny amount, and solely for their preservative power. Instead of hops, ginger, myrrh, and orange peel are used to represent the balancing spices of ancient times. The myrrh provides the bittering that allows Teo to mostly forgo the use of hops. The nose is very complex with a warming, lovely bouquet of rose and violet. Fruity aromas of bitter orange, mango, and lychee marry beautifully with the floral, honeyed, and spicy aromas. The beer is well balanced in the mouth with an extremely interesting herbal, spiced aftertaste and unexpected white balsamic notes. In this limited edition "Sour" version (only produced in 2005, 2006, and 2010) 25% of the mash was allowed to open-top ferment, and sour, to amplify the citrus/acidic quality, making for a very white wine-like beer. It would be perfect on the dinner table with the likes of Duck L'Orange and Roasted Pork. 6.8% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 865 - G. Schneider & Sohn, "Mein Nelson Sauvin" Sparkling Wheat Bock - Kelheim/Munich, Germany
Another product from house favorite, Schneider & Sohn! "Mein Nelson Sauvin" is a limited release product brewed by Schneider to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of famed Dutch beer Café, ABT Cafés. "Mein Nelson Sauvin" is a complex, rich, golden, and cloudy bottle-fermented wheat beer. The aroma reminds us of white flower blossoms, freshly mowed grass, even grapes, gooseberries, and kiwi. These intensely fruity aromas are well-balanced by malty, biscuity notes on the nose. There is a thrilling contrast of exotic flowery notes and malty/spicy impressions, all finishing with a fine bitterness and slightly sour fruitiness. Rich appetizers such as pickled vegetables or charcuterie go very well with this lovely beer. Pairing pasta or fish dishes would be a good match for this ale, and with a creamy, ripe cheese or dessert with lots of fresh fruit notes would be a great way to finish a nice meal. This brew can be used to do many of the same pairings for which you might choose a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Try another rare release tonight! 7.3% alc. (750ml bottle)

Bin 818 - Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, "Luciernaga" Pale Ale - Dexter, Michigan
Another stellar offering from Jolly Pumpkin, "Luciernaga" is a Belgian-inspired pale ale crafted with the same dedication and attention to detail as Jolly Pumpkin's other beers on our list. It pours a rich golden orange with subtle aromas of citrus, coriander, lemongrass, barley and a slight sour tartness. This beer has a substantial yet vibrant mouthfeel thanks to the high carbonation, which delivers the combination of light malt, lemon zest, pear, and underripened pineapple well. The sour profile is a lighter component than in some of Jolly Pumpkin's other brews, and combines with the coriander, grains of paradise, and hops to present a unioque and delightful spiced yet tart finish. 6.5% alc. Bin 812 - Rodenbach, "Vintage 2009" Flemish Sour Ale - Steenhuffel, Belgium
A unique brewing process, open-top, wild yeast fermentation, and extended barrel aging make this beer a one-of-a-kind experience. An acquired taste for sure, but one worth acquiring. Savory aromas of balsamic vinegar, apple cider, black cherries, and oak all braid together in a decadent scent that's backed by lightly kilned malt, mild chocolate, bread crust, and oily nuts. The sweet and sour interplay becomes most prominant on the palate with fruity acidity being lead by tart cherries, followed by crabapples, cider, under-rippened berries, limes, and vinegar. Aged notes of leather, must, brine, balsamic, and soy sauce give a regal masculinity to the beer that tempers the otherwise brash sourness. Share one with your friends today! 7% alc. (750ml bottle)
